The K2 Base Camp trek follows the Braldu river and Baltoro glacier from Askole to Concordia — the amphitheatre where K2, Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums stand in one 360° sweep — then on to K2's base at ~5,000 m. Expect 12–14 trekking days, tent nights from Jhola onward, and costs of $1,550–$5,450 depending on service level; permits ($300–450) are mandatory and included in SafarGB departures.
Everest Base Camp has teahouses and Wi-Fi; the Baltoro has silence and the four most serious mountains on earth. Nothing on the route is technical, but everything is committed — once past Paiju, you and your crew are the infrastructure.
Concordia is the payoff geography invented: Gasherbrum IV's shining wall dead ahead for days, then the left turn where K2 — hidden the entire approach — takes the sky in one reveal. Grown mountaineers go quiet; photographers report memory-card anxiety.
The optional Gondogoro La exit (5,585 m, crampons, fixed lines) trades two extra days for the Karakoram's finest pass view — Laila Peak's blade at sunrise — and a descent into Hushe's orchards instead of retracing the glacier.

K2 BC, clearly: longer glacier stages, tent-only nights, no teahouse resupply and wilder weather. EBC is a trek with infrastructure; the Baltoro is a small expedition. That's precisely its appeal.
Do I need a guide and permits?
Yes — the route lies inside the Central Karakoram National Park with mandatory licensed-guide and permit requirements (typically $300–450 in fees). SafarGB handles every document; you carry a passport and fitness.
What fitness level is required?
Comfortable 6–8 hour hiking days on consecutive weeks, with a pack under 8 kg (porters carry the rest). Our 12-week pre-trek plan has taken first-timers to Concordia comfortably — the discipline is aerobic base, not heroics.
