Soq Valley

The mini-Deosai above town nobody told you about.

Soq is a high grazing valley 40 minutes above Skardu — locals call it 'mini Deosai' for its rolling turf and stream braids — with a road-end viewpoint over the Indus's great bend. It's the sunset drive for evenings when the desert is windy, and it stays green weeks after the plateau browns.

Sunset over the Indus bend

When Deosai's pass is closed or the afternoon is short, Soq delivers the plateau feeling in miniature: turf, marmots, a cold stream to sit beside, and a final ridge where the Indus valley opens below like unrolled silk.

Getting there

~15 km above Skardu via the Sadpara road spur; 4x4 preferred for the last kilometres.
